Oklahoma offered early, kept building the relationship and now has its commitment.
Four-star 2028 defensive lineman Logan Lokey has committed to the Sooners, giving OU a pledge from the Denton Guyer standout whose recruitment has been trending toward Norman for months.
And this one comes with an interesting Red River connection.
His father, Derek Lokey, played defensive line at Texas and won a national championship with the Longhorns in 2005. His son is choosing Oklahoma.
The 6-foot-3, 250-pound defender has been a recurring name on OUInsider’s visitor lists. Oklahoma became his first Power Four offer in January, and continued trips to Norman gave the Sooners opportunities to strengthen those relationships.
When OUInsider visited Guyer’s practice earlier this season, Lokey explained what kept drawing him back.
“Their coaching staff is a very family-centered coaching staff,” Lokey told OUInsider. “They want to pursue greatness, and I think they have a really good plan to execute it. That intrigues me a lot.
“Coach Chavis and Coach Bates are really, really good defensive-line coaches and very good human beings.”
Those relationships with Miguel Chavis and Todd Bates, alongside head coach Brent Venables, helped Oklahoma establish the strong position we’ve discussed throughout his recruitment.
“Coach Venables is awesome,” Lokey said during that interview. “I think he’s a really great defensive mind and a really good man. I think the whole coaching staff is made up of men of Christ. It’s really inspiring, so it’s definitely something I keep my eye on.”
Lokey also shares a close friendship with fellow 2028 prospect Jay Schell, a connection OUInsider previously detailed. The two became friends at the FBU ninth-grade All-American Game in 2024.
But Lokey’s decision ultimately centered on finding his own fit.
“I have in my Notes app a few things that I want,” he told OUInsider. “I do want a faith-based place where I can go, have my faith and talk about my faith with other people—and a staff that lives that out as well.
“It’s not an end-all, be-all, but it’s definitely something that makes you feel more at home and comfortable. Along with praying and feeling called somewhere, it’s important.”
Oklahoma’s early offer opened the door. The relationships and return visits helped keep it open.
Now, after appearing on several OUInsider visitor lists as a target, Lokey’s next appearance will come with a different designation: COMMIT.
