Oklahoma has one of the top overall classes in 2027, and depending on who you read, the Sooners have the number overall class. With us at On3, the Sooners are ranked number three overall behind Texas A&M and Texas Tech. On the other sites, the Sooners are number one overall.
With that, the Sooners aren’t close to being done for 2027, either. They still have players like Rivals100 and potential five-star CB Gabriel Osborne Jr, four-star TE Ben Kolar, three-star WR Tre Britton, three-star WR Kyron Brown, Rivals300 and four-star IOL Gus Corsair, Rivals200 and four-star DE Myles Smith, three-star DE Sam Nelson, three-star DE Uhila Wolfgramm, three-star DT Joseph Graves, three-star DT Sione Felila, three-star DT Yahzeen Zion, four-star LB Case Alexander, Rivals100 and four-star CB JuJu Johnson, three-star CB Trenton Blaylock, and finally, Rivals100 and four-star safety Bode Sparrow that Oklahoma is in a decent to very good spots for heading into official visit season.
That amount of targets still being on the board, with OU already having 20 commits, begs the question of how big the Sooners class will be in 2027? It’s a great question to ask, but to be honest, it all depends on how much OU wants to add through the high school ranks heading into the 2027 season. Remember, you still have the post-2026 season attrition to account for and that is something no one could possibly know for sure until around October or November of the 2026 season.
So, understanding all of that, helps you realize that OU could very well push for about 26-30 in high school recruiting. And if the Sooners close in on another four or five Rivals400 types (yes, top 400 usually in 4-star range), it would be hard to imagine anyone beating OU for the number one spot. Especially if Cooper Hackett and Kaeden Penny stay in the five-star range, with Gabriel Osborne getting his fifth star and him actually committing to OU this summer. That last part with Osborne is the one that is more up in the air than anything right now — though I would still put the Sooners in the lead for the elite OKPreps CB.
LATEST ON 2027 OKPREPS FOUR-STAR TIGHT END
*** The other instate player that OU really needs to seal up is four-star TE Ben Kolar. The OKPreps TE will be at the Sooners’ spring game this weekend. Kolar was at Auburn this past weekend after visiting an OU practice during the last week as well.
Kolar told me that his visit to OU was very informative that OU really helped him understand how much they want him and how he would be used. The fact the Sooners used a ton of 12-personnel (two TEs and one RB formations) really helped out a lot. Kolar said that TE coach Jason Witten, OC Ben Arbuckle and GM Jim Nagy showed him how he and potential five-star TE Seneca Driver work off each other due to their differences in skillsets and frames.
All that said, Auburn head coach Alex Golesh has a longstanding relationship with the Kolar family due to Golesh coaching the four-star OKPreps TE older brother, Charlie, while at Iowa State. That relationship and the fact they have proof with the Kolars that they will use the 2027 TE goes a long way.
As for official visits, nothing is set in stone just yet. OU, Auburn, Tennessee, Northwestern, Stanford and possibly one other are likely to get officials from Kolar. Though, don’t be shocked if a team hits it off with him before he finishes all of his OVs. That would undoubtedly make it to where Kolar would eventually stop taking his visits. Oklahoma is hoping it’s going to be them, but there is a ways to go before all of that gets even remotely close to happening.
Still, I like where OU stands with Kolar. They get to host him once again for the Sooners’ spring game and we will catch up with him and have more intel on where things stand after the spring game, so stay tuned to OUInsider.

*** Latest OKPreps and Mustang (OK) five-star DB Gabe Osborne:
He has been taking a lot of visits and really working on catching up with basketball being such a fixture for him throughout January, February and March that he is trying to take in as many visits as he can in a very short amount of time. To put the amount of visits Osborne has been taking over the last few weeks in to perspective, the OKPreps star has been to OU, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Alabama and Miami during that short time.
Another visit that could happen in the not too distant future (maybe even the next four or five days) is Michigan. According to sources close to Osborne, we have been told that the Wolverines, Bama, Ohio State and OU have been the ones that have kept in touch with people around Mustang the most. However, in that same instance, we also know that Ole Miss made a very big push when Osborne visited there. To the point that some crazy NIL figures were thrown out there, per sources.
All that said, I still like the Sooners’ chances. Again, there are some that have thrown out some crazy numbers for Osborne. Ole Miss is one that I would say has he and his people’s ear quite strongly on that front, but so does Bama and Ohio State, per sources.
Still, the Sooners have gotten him on campus some this spring and could get him back for one of their last two practices next week as well. Something we are watching closely, but even if not, OU is one you can bet will get an OV as things stand today and that will be big. I say that because he hasn’t been able to spend multiple days around the staff or on-campus at OU with him living right down the road.
OU has also worked on making some very interesting plays on the NIL front for Osborne. At this point, Osborne is being treated like an out-of-state five-star type, but with the full understanding from people around Norman that he is a MUST for OU to land. Hence the treatment that OU is giving Osborne up to this point. They know the competition is heating up and Lamar Morgan has fully go all-in on the Mustang DB, along with the rest of the Sooners’ staff.
“The second he shows up there is the whole staff waiting to greet him and his people as they enter the facility,” source told OUInsider. “He’s as important of a prospect as it gets [for OU]. He’s at or near the top of almost every board across the nation because of what he can become. Optically, [OU] knows he is a must.”
If we hear he is 100% visiting OU this weekend we will update you all, but regardless, OU still sits at the top with how they have operated and continue to prioritize Osborne. Stay tuned for more.
